But hard water is a problem for a lot of homeowners, and though it doesn’t affect your health, it can cause a lot of other problems.

Water is considered hard when it has a large amount of minerals in it. These minerals remain on the surfaces and leave stains.

Tips for Cleaning Stains from Hard Water

If you have problems with hard water stains, below are some of the tips that you can use for cleaning the stains off of common items around the house.

  • Utensils – Use equal parts water & white vinegar. Boil it and then leave it soaking. Then clean.
  • Tap/sink/tub – Use lemon juice or vinegar for cleaning the surfaces. Allow it to sit half an hour and then scrub the surface clean with a microfiber cloth or sponge.
  • Shower head – Take your shower head off, then put it in a solution of white vinegar for 2-3 hours. Scrub it and then rinse with plain water, (or warm water for better results!).
  • Shower doors – Spray a solution of vinegar onto the shower door and then wipe it off.

Minerals can be broken down, which is why you always want to use a stronger cleaning solution for stain. Vinegar and citrus are both known for their natural cleaning ability, and can also go a long way to helping you break down stains.
